Chatwriters

Tap a star to rate

What it is

Chatwriters is an employer of freelance chat operators. It pays adults, 18 and older and fluent in written English, to answer messages on adult-oriented chat platforms and to stay anonymous while doing it. Operators are paid per message at a fixed rate, paid out weekly in Euros, and the site says it never charges upfront fees to join. The company behind the site is stated on its About page as EnterTalkPro Ltd, with an address in Wan Chai, Hong Kong, and the site runs a US recruiting page addressed to its "American team" and an Australian version, with a language menu that adds several other English versions and a long list of European languages. Its application form says applicants sign up "with our partner: Texting Factory".

How earning works

The job is simple by the site's own description. The homepage says, "Your gig is simple: respond to messages on adult-oriented chat platforms and get paid per message." It lists what a Chatwriter does in a short list that starts with sending flirty text messages while staying anonymous and getting paid for every message sent. The site says there is no ceiling on how many messages an operator can send, and that the work can be done from a computer or a mobile, as much or as little as the operator wants and from anywhere. A laptop or a smartphone is enough.

The subject matter is described as role-play and fantasy. The homepage invites operators to cover topics "from everyday life to more saucy and adventurous subjects", and the Australian page words the same idea as everyday chit-chat and dreams through to "something a bit more risqué". Operators are told they can let their creativity run wild. The Australian page calls them adult flirting sites. The operator does not build a following or a profile of their own: the work is replying to the messages that come in, and each one is credited.

Getting started follows a short sequence that the homepage lays out. First comes the application. The form asks for a name and an email address, with no resume. The site says it will get back to applicants within 24 hours. Second is an ID check, with a coach who walks the applicant through verifying their ID. Third is training from a coach who shows the operator the ropes, and then the operator is ready to work. The site says an applicant could be "pocketing money as early as next week", and the Australian FAQ adds that the whole process from sign-up to working is usually done within 3 days. The blog post on the site states that training and ongoing support are provided.

Operators log in to the company's own platform with a unique username and password. The FAQ states that replies go out anonymously, that an operator's real identity and personal information are never disclosed to anyone, and that an operator cannot be recognized on the platform they are working from. Hours are fully the operator's own. The benefits list on the homepage reads, in order, work wherever you call home, cash out weekly, set your own hours, from where you want, open 24/7 with night owls welcome, and a fixed rate per message.

For earnings, the site is general. Pay depends on how much work is put in, and the Australian page says, "More messages, higher salary", with bonuses mentioned for reaching a certain amount of messages or working on public holidays. The US homepage names two bonus routes of its own, referring friends and hitting message milestones. The site also says some operators earn "a very decent salary", others "just enjoy some extra spending money", and that most operators work part-time next to another job, while some do it as their full-time job.

Money and rules

  • Rate: "Fixed rate per message." The site does not publish the amount. The FAQ adds that the rate per message stays the same wherever the operator works from, "so it might even be attractive to work from abroad."

  • Schedule: weekly. The US FAQ says, "We pay weekly. You'll see your earnings in your account by week's end," and adds that the site has one promise, to always pay on time.

  • Currency: Euros. The US page says online payment systems make it easy to convert to U.S. dollars, and the Australian page says the same for AUD.

  • Methods: direct bank transfers or selected online payment providers, and the US list of duties promises "weekly payouts directly to your bank account".

  • Fees: the site says no fees have to be paid before hiring: "We will never charge any upfront fees in order to join our team."

  • Contract: operators are hired as freelancers and sign a freelance contract with an NDA. They can stop whenever they want, and there is no binding work period.

  • Requirements: at least 18 years old, fluent in written English, a computer, tablet or mobile of their own with an internet connection, and being open-minded and comfortable with adult content.

  • ID: only a valid ID document such as a passport, driver's license or other valid ID is accepted as proof of identity. The site explains that it cannot let anyone under 18 work as a contractor and cannot pay out through any payment provider unless it can verify who the operator is.

  • Gender: the FAQ says gender does not matter at all.

  • ID partner: the FAQ says the company has partnered with Evalid to assess IDs, and gives three reasons for the check: confirming identity, making sure the operator is over 18, and paying the right person. It adds that people try "different methods of fraud by pretending to be others".

  • Application: the form asks for a first name, last name and e-mail, and three tick-boxes confirm the privacy policy, "I am 18+ and OK working with adult content" and "I understand ID verification is required".

Who it suits and who it does not

Chatwriters suits an adult who wants chat-operator work without having to build an audience, show their face or run a profile, and who is comfortable writing flirty and role-play messages in English. The weekly schedule and the stated lack of upfront fees make it an easy way to try the work. The coach-led ID check and training mean a first-timer is not left to figure it out alone, and operators who prefer to work at night or around another job get hours that are completely their own, as the site says it is open 24/7.

It is a weaker fit for anyone who wants to know the rate before applying, since the site describes it only as a fixed rate per message and the pay depends entirely on message volume. Operators who need dollars or Australian dollars should note that pay is in Euros, with the conversion left to an online payment system. The ID step is firm, so an applicant who will not provide an ID cannot work or be paid. The work is also by nature anonymous and per message, which means nothing carries over to a personal brand: an operator earns for the messages sent and no more. Finally, the site's own description of income is general: some operators earn "a very decent salary" in its words, others extra spending money, and it puts no figure on either.
