What Fansly is
Fansly is a fan subscription platform that pays creators for subscriptions, locked pay-per-view media, media sales, tips and live streams. Its site invites visitors to "Interact with your fans today and start selling content" and to "make a free account". The help center is published in English and Spanish, and it handles applications from individual creators and, through a separate route, from agencies, producers and others. A creator who wants a subscription page with a live streaming section, mass messaging and tracking links in one account is the reader it is built for.
The help center is organized into collections named Fansly Account Basics, Applying & Collaborators, Creator Features and FAQs, Purchasing Content & Managing Purchased Content, Age Verification Requirements, and FAQs & Basic Troubleshooting. The creator collection is the largest of them, and it covers audience, posting, messaging, media, monetizing, discoverability, live streaming and privacy.
How earning works on Fansly
Subscriptions and followers. A creator's audience has two layers, which the help center names as "Followers and Subscribers". Followers are a community a creator grows "through posts, replies, or direct messages", and subscriptions have their own set of articles on setting them up and editing them. A creator can control who is allowed to follow them, and Timeline Permissions let them "adjust your visibility anytime to match your comfort level and audience". A setting to hide the timeline from the public is also documented.
Locked media and media sales. The help center calls locked media, "also known as PPV", "one of the most effective ways to earn money on Fansly". A creator can add a free preview to locked media, set custom thumbnails for videos, and sell through Media Sales, which the help center describes as "an easy way to offer exclusive content while keeping everything organized and secure". There is a stated minimum price for a media sale; the help center says Fansly "sets clear limits for media pricing to help creators sell content fairly and securely". Text posts can be monetized too. A Copied Media Offers feature covers repurposing content, and a separate article explains the how and why of reposting another creator's content.
Tips. Tipping has its own setup article, "Everything creators need to know to set up tipping", and a creator can hide tip amounts on posts.
Messaging. The messaging section covers DMs, DM permissions, mass messages and automated messages. Media can be sent in DMs, and the permissions article says a creator decides "who can access what" whether posting to the timeline, sending media in DMs or going live.
Content organization. Creators get a Media Vault with albums, Collections to "organize and showcase your content", Walls, Stories for "quick moments, behind-the-scenes content, or promote new posts", pinned posts "at the top of your profile", scheduled posts and posts scheduled to expire. Audio posts can be recorded "right from your browser" and published at once.
Fan management. Lists track users and organize activity, buyers of media can be sorted into lists, and a VIP function "helps you highlight and organize your top supporters". Tracking Links show "exactly how people are finding your account and how they interact with your content once they arrive", which matters to a creator who promotes on several outside channels.
Live streaming. Fansly has its own streaming, set up through broadcasting software with a stream key, plus a Lovense Chrome extension for connecting Lovense to Fansly Streaming. A dedicated article on monetizing live streams says "Fansly offers multiple ways to earn income directly from your live streams". The viewer list "shows the usernames of everyone currently connected to your live stream", there are private lists and stream chat commands, and the streaming content guidelines set out "Fansly Live rules on prohibited content, streaming games, copyright, and pre-recorded streams".
Discovery. Fansly offers in-platform discovery, not only the creator's own traffic. The help center has articles on profile discoverability features, a tagging system, the For You Page ("Info to get you started posting on Fansly's FYP"), how Fansly's recommendations work, and a Leaderboard FAQ. It also covers advertising on social media, building an identity or brand, linking social media accounts for "boosting discoverability", and promoting other websites.
Referral codes. Creators can create referral codes, which have their own group of articles. A troubleshooting entry explains the "Referral Code Already in Use" error: the code "is already being used by another user".
Agencies, producers and collaborators. The Applying & Collaborators collection has separate articles for applying as a creator and "Applying as an Agency, Producer, or Other". Management Sessions are listed under creator privacy and management. Content featuring other people goes through "several approved methods to ensure that publishing collaborative content is done legally and ethically", and separate articles cover North Carolina consent form requirements (HB 805) and AI generated content on Fansly.
Money and rules
Earnings land in an Earnings Wallet, kept apart from the spending wallet. Once a payout method is added, a creator can request a withdrawal from the Available for Payout balance in the Earnings Wallet, and payout requests can be checked from that wallet. Minimums differ by method, under an article titled "Payout Minimums by Method", and the processing article says "The payout process involves several stages, each with its own time frame." Fansly says it "continuously works to offer as many payout options as possible for creators", with an article on alternative payout methods, a bank payout troubleshooting article, and steps for when a payout was canceled. The help center's collection pages do not state the revenue share.
Tax paperwork is named. The W-9 is "an IRS-mandated document used by U.S. taxpayers who work as independent contractors or freelancers", and the W-8BEN is a document "that all creators outside the United States must submit to confirm their foreign status" (filed as W-8BEN / DAC7). There are articles on Form 1099-NEC, whether Fansly withholds taxes, non-US tax information, OECD model reporting rules for platforms, and choosing a payer. Outdated personal details "may lead to payout issues or limited access to certain tools".
An inactive status charge is "a small fee that may be applied if your account has no activity for 12 consecutive months". Most fan transactions are final, though the help center says "there are a few situations in which refunds may be applicable". Media on Fansly cannot be downloaded. On consent, the help center says the consent of all parties must be respected at all times, and creators can retract consent for shared content. Age verification for access has U.S. and global articles, while creator applicants are pointed to the application section. There are also articles on stolen content, impersonation, reporting non-consensual intimate imagery and hacked accounts.
Who it suits and who it does not
Fansly suits a creator who wants subscriptions, PPV, media sales, tips and live streaming under one login, and who values in-platform discovery through a For You Page, tags and recommendations rather than relying entirely on outside traffic. Creators who run promotion across social accounts get tracking links to measure it. Agencies and producers have a named application route and management sessions, and a creator who shoots with other performers has a stated process for verifying collaborators. US and non-US creators each have a named tax form.
The caveats are about the money terms. A creator comparing platforms on payout share will not find a percentage on the help center's collection pages, and payout minimums vary by method while processing runs in several stages. A creator who takes long breaks should note the inactive status charge after 12 months without activity. A creator collaborating with others in North Carolina has a state-specific consent article to read first.
