What It Is

Chat From Home is the recruitment side of an adult phone sex line run by RJ Media, which says the people behind it have been providing adult chat line operators with work "for over 30 years". It recruits self-employed operators to take calls from home on the company's lines, and the home page sells the job in one row of benefits: self employed, no set-up fees, total anonymity, work from home, mobile or landline, best rates, work own hours, great revenues, weekly payments. The joining rules are UK-specific: operators must be at least 18, take calls on a fixed UK landline or UK mobile, and be paid into a UK-based bank account in their own name. The home page calls the business "The UK's Leading Adult Phone Sex Line" and the about page "the most established live entertainment business within the UK". Those are its own claims. The recruitment copy is written for women, and callers are described as men.

How Earning Works

An operator is paid for the calls she takes on the company's lines. RJ Media runs the phone numbers and the websites callers browse; the operator is the voice. Her persona is listed on sites the FAQ names as 35p Phone Sex and Live 1-2-1 Chat, where callers choose from categories. The home page lists the 35p Phone Sex categories by hair color, body type and interest (fetish and domination, experienced, fantasy among them), and Live 1-2-1 Chat as mature ladies, grannies and bored housewives. Callers find a particular operator with a 4-digit PIN: "We'll provide you with an agent number and pin number, which allows clients to find you on our websites." The agent number identifies her on the company's call-tracking kit, which the FAQ says is how payment is attributed. On logging in, callers hear the welcome message she records, which the FAQ's training answer says is heard by "all callers when they first ring in to find out who’s online and available for a call".

For safety, the profile does not use her face. The home page says "For your safety, we don't use real images, but ones that match your chosen adjectives and our carefully crafted descriptions." The company helps her build the persona and profile, and the about page promises "Total anonymity is guaranteed for both agent and client" and that personal details are never disclosed to a third party.

Joining runs in steps that the home page and the work-from-home page both set out. An application form asks for name, email address, phone number, mobile number and date of birth. A member of the team then rings for what the site calls "an informal, yet informative, chat about the service", with no pressure to join and applications treated "in the strictest of confidence". Test calls follow: the home page calls them optional and a chance for feedback, the work-from-home page and FAQ make them a suitability check, and the FAQ says successful applicants are invited into its "network of self-employed adult phone line operators". Then come the agent number and PIN, training on the code of conduct, the recorded welcome message and the profile. No experience is needed, the work-from-home page says, because in-house managers guide new operators through logging on, tracking earnings and handling callers.

Every new operator gets an account manager who helps set up the account, create the profile and "track your earnings through the handy online portal". The portal shows each call, its duration and the earnings it produced, which gives the operator her own record of what she has worked.

Hours are hers. The lines are open 24/7/365, and the about page says operators are self-employed, so the company "would never enforce shifts". The one working condition is that she takes calls whenever she is logged on, and the FAQ adds that she should only be logged in when available. The FAQ names early evening and late at night as popular times. The work-from-home page says some operators make this their full line of work, some earn extra in evenings or weekends, and some log on occasionally.

The company's advice on earning is about regular callers. The FAQ tells new agents that a network of regulars is how revenue grows, and the about page says the PIN system lets callers pick the operator they want, which is how a regular comes back. It also suggests reading up on topics callers raise, naming foot fetishes, domination, watersports and BDSM, and the work-from-home page says most callers arrive with a storyline in mind. It adds that while many conversations start off sexual, many callers also ring to talk through personal matters, so the role covers listening and support as well as fantasy.

Money and Rules

Pay is weekly. The FAQ says "We transfer revenue weekly, with our rate of pay increasing after 16 hours of logging onto the service", and the about page repeats the 16-hour raise and describes weekly pay as a difference from "most other UK providers". The company calls its rate "among the highest within the industry" and says it receives thousands of calls every day; both are its own claims. The FAQ's earning line is also a claim, not a promise: "you can find yourself earning hundreds of pounds a week, just by simply chatting on the phone". The site does not publish a rate per minute or per call.

The restrictions list on the work-from-home page is the rulebook for joining: at least 18 years old, a fixed UK landline or UK mobile, any answering machine service disabled on that line, a UK-based bank account in the operator's name, responsibility for her own tax and national insurance, and a willingness to take calls while logged on. No set-up fee is charged, per the home page.

The conduct code bans drugs, incest, bestiality, rape and any topic involving people under 18. Operators must also check that the caller is over 18. The home page says "We do monitor calls, and we have gotten rid of agents who have broken these rules before", and the FAQ says disrespect toward callers, continually missed calls or discussing illegal activity ends an operator's place on the lines. Operators may divert or end any call that makes them uncomfortable.

Support runs on fixed hours, given as 10-6 Monday to Friday and 10-4 Saturday on the home and about pages, and as Monday to Saturday 7am-6:30pm on the work-from-home page.

Who It Suits and Who It Does Not

This suits a woman of 18 or over in the UK who wants voice-only adult work from home with a structured start: a screening call, test calls, an account manager, training on the rules, and a profile that uses no real photo. Weekly pay and a raise after 16 logon hours reward someone who keeps showing up, and the PIN system rewards an operator who builds regulars. The 24/7 lines suit evening and late-night workers.

The limits are clear too. It is UK-only by its own rules, so anyone without a UK phone and UK bank account cannot join. Operators are self-employed and handle their own tax and national insurance. The rate itself is not printed, so the pages alone do not let an applicant compare it with other chat lines. And the company owns the lines, the websites and the pricing callers pay, so an operator cannot set her own rate or take her regulars elsewhere.
