What the business is
LiveLines UK Ltd is a Northampton company that recruits independent chat line operators, also called chatline hosts or phone sex operators, to take live adult phone calls from home on its platform. The chat line page describes it as "a trusted UK-based company with over 30 years’ experience handling high volumes of live phone adult chat calls worldwide", and the apply page dates it: "Since 1992, we've been connecting independent operators with customers". Operators are self-employed, paid per minute of call time on a revenue share, and the pages list "No Joining Fees", "No Upfront Fees" and "No Set Up Fees or Costs". Applicants must be over 18, and the company takes operators from the UK and from abroad.
The same company runs a second recruitment line for psychic and tarot readers, on phone and messenger, under its Trusted Psychics service. That role needs previous reading experience and has its own platform guide; the chat line role does not ask for experience, and the two share the apply page and its entry rules.
How earning works here
The chat line job is inbound only. The chat line page sets out the role: "taking live inbound phone chat calls from callers looking for friendly conversation, companionship, or light adult chat", with operators asked to chat naturally, keep calls engaging and provide "friendly, imaginative, and flirty live chat". It warns that "Some calls may be of an adult nature involving adult or fantasy-based conversation, so applicants must be comfortable with this type of adult chat." There is no cold calling and, per the home page, no promotion or trolling required: the company markets the lines and routes the calls.
Pay follows talk time. "Independent Chat Line Operators are paid per minute of call time," the chat line page says, and earnings depend on availability to log on and time spent talking. Callers can add to that: "Many customers will choose to leave you a tip to thank you for their chat; these amounts can quickly build up and are added to your revenues." The apply page adds that the company pays "competitive revenue share rates with higher rates for more log-on hours" and that "There are no maximum earnings limits". It also flags that UK operators who take calls on a mobile rather than a landline are on different rates.
Callers come to the operator, who does not build an audience from scratch. The home page talks of "Very Busy Services, Calls Every Few Minutes", and a page on the qualities of a good operator says operators are "receiving calls every 1-2 minutes". Those are the company's own volume claims. The same page explains how routing rewards reliability: "When our hold times are good and our missed call % down, we are sent more calls." Repeat callers matter too, and the page advises setting personal shift times, because "Logging on here and there will not enable your repeat callers to get back through to you with ease."
Hours are flexible. The apply page lists "Log on and off whenever you like" and "No minimum log-on hours per week", and calls run 24 hours a day. Operator testimonials on the chat line page describe the range: a parent who logs on after her children's bedtime, a university student who takes calls on a mobile even when home for the weekend, an operator in Australia who has taken calls for 3 years and was used to 2-3 calls an hour elsewhere.
Equipment depends on where the operator lives. UK operators can take calls on a UK landline or mobile. The apply page names the USA, Canada, Australia, France, Spain and Greece among accepted countries, plus "Most other countries". In the named countries calls can go straight to a landline, and US operators can also use a cell phone. Elsewhere an operator needs a good internet connection, a smartphone, laptop or computer, and a purchased or rented VoIP number, a setup the chat line FAQ also describes as a UK VOIP number with a reliable internet connection.
Joining runs online. The apply page asks applicants to read the Live Chat Platform Guide first, then fill in an application form and electronically sign the contract on any PC, tablet or smartphone. The company then contacts the applicant for account activation, which the chat line page calls "a comprehensive account activation process", and says it aims to start new operators within 1-3 working days. Previous experience is not required for chat. An operator sign-in area and published platform guides support existing operators, and the home page lists 24 hour support and a "Referral Programme Available" without further detail.
Money and rules
The pay structure the pages commit to: per-minute pay on call time, tips added to revenue, a revenue share that rises with more log-on hours, different rates for UK mobile operators, and no earnings cap. Payment is every 2 weeks. The chat line FAQ says payments "are processed through secure, established payment systems and are paid every 2 weeks", and the apply page lists "Payment is fortnightly". The site does not publish the per-minute rate or the share percentage.
Income figures appear only in testimonials. In October 2026 one chat operator quoted on the home page says "I easily make £300-£400 a week from my regular callers", and another says she can earn £400 a week from home. These are quotes the company chose, not a rate.
Entry rules on the apply page: over 18, a landline or VoIP number (UK and USA operators may use mobiles), the right platform guide read, and fluent English among the listed skills. The home page describes the platform as "Regulated by Ofcom", the company's own statement.
On privacy, the chat line page says callers do not know the operator's phone number or personal details, personal details are never shared, and details are never sold to third parties.
Who it suits and who it does not
This suits an adult who wants inbound phone chat work with the callers supplied, paid by the minute, and who can log on in regular blocks: the routing and repeat-caller advice both reward a steady schedule. It is open to beginners on the chat side, and to international operators, including those in the USA, Canada, Australia, France, Spain and Greece who can take calls on a landline with no extra kit.
The limits are worth weighing. The per-minute rate and the share are not printed, so the only income numbers are testimonials. Operators outside the named countries carry the cost and upkeep of a VoIP number. UK mobile users are on different rates from landline users. And pay follows minutes of call time, so a quiet stretch or a run of missed calls costs the operator directly.
