What PhoneSexWork.net is
PhoneSexWork.net is the hiring site of a phone sex service that recruits phone sex operators, which it abbreviates PSOs. It hires people in the US and Canada, and it says it takes applicants of all levels of experience, "even no experience". The application is a form on the site. Operators are paid per call, either at a per-minute rate or a flat rate for a fixed block of time, and the money is paid out twice a month. The home page pitches the work as a way to work from home on a schedule the operator sets herself, either in free time or full time, and sums up the appeal in its own words as "Explore your kinky side with no risk and make money while doing so!" Every page asks applicants to read the FAQ before applying, and the FAQ is where the terms are.
How earning works here
The FAQ explains that there are 2 types of calls. The first is per-minute calls. These pay a per-minute commission rate, plus request bonuses, and higher pay per minute for extended hold times. The second is flat-rate calls, which pay a flat rate for a fixed amount of time. The FAQ gives an example: a 20 minute flat-rate call pays the same whether all of the minutes are used or the caller only uses 10 minutes, and it also carries request bonuses. Read together, the FAQ names what raises an operator's pay on a per-minute call: the commission on each minute, a bonus when a call counts as a request, and a higher per-minute rate once a call reaches an extended hold time. On a flat-rate call the length of the conversation stops mattering to her pay, because a caller who leaves early has still bought the whole block.
The work as described is answering calls for the company, on a schedule the operator sets. The FAQ asks the operator to bring a phone with a clear connection and a strong signal. A landline is preferred, but the company allows mobile phones as long as the calls are clear and there are minimal dropped calls. She also needs a quiet place to do calls and a stopwatch, and the FAQ points out that the clock feature on an iPhone or Android phone will do. It sits on the list of what an applicant needs to begin, beside the phone and the quiet room.
Applicants are asked to be candid about subject limits. The FAQ says the company does not want operators taking calls they are uncomfortable or unfamiliar with, because an operator who is uncomfortable with a call's content tends to do it poorly and draw complaints, and in the FAQ's words "Nobody wants that." It adds that having restrictions does not mean an applicant will not be hired, and that the company will honor whatever subject restrictions an applicant has. The application page repeats the point, asking applicants to be honest about their experience and limitations and to show their personality, and tells them to take their time and answer all of the questions. Callers are described as looking for PSOs with personality. Newcomers get an encouraging line too: "We were all newbies once."
The application itself has a few firm rules. Incomplete applications and those that show an obvious lack of communication skills are always deleted. A male applicant must list the companies he has worked for in the space provided, and if that is left blank the application is deleted. The company says it is not always hiring and that a lack of contact is not always a rejection. An application is kept on file for 90 days, and an applicant who has not heard back in that time is welcome to reapply.
The site's menu also carries a Phone Sex Job Resources section and a contact page.
Money and rules
The payment terms the FAQ gives are specific. Payment is by direct deposit to a checking or savings account. Pay periods are twice a month and end on the 16th and the 1st of the month at 12 a.m. PST. Pay arrives within 7 business days of the pay period closing. A Canadian operator can receive direct deposit only into a US bank account, and the alternative is a check mailed twice a month to a physical address. The FAQ names RBC, TD Bank, CIBC, Scotiabank, BMO and Tangerine as banks that offer US accounts to Canadian citizens, and says each bank has its own requirements when opening one from Canada. It also says an applicant does not need US citizenship to apply.
On eligibility, an applicant must be 18 years or older and provide valid ID, and the FAQ says all ages over 18 are welcome. The ID can be an official document that shows age, for example a driver's license, passport or university ID. US citizens need a Social Security number so the company can file a 1099. Men are hired only with professional experience, and the FAQ asks them to list the companies they have worked for.
The FAQ does not publish the per-minute commission rate or the flat-rate amounts. On tax paperwork it names one step: for US citizens the Social Security number is collected so that the company can file a 1099. Content limits are set per operator, through the subject restrictions she declares on the application and the company promises to honor.
Who it suits
PhoneSexWork.net suits an adult in the US or Canada who wants phone-based work with a predictable twice-monthly pay cycle and does not want to find her own callers. The company says it takes applicants of every experience level, so a newcomer is not excluded. An operator who knows her own limits will find the explicit promise to honor subject restrictions useful, since many phone jobs leave that vague. The pay timetable is spelled out, which helps with planning.
The caveats are plain. The rate is not on the site, so comparing pay with other phone jobs comes after applying. A man with no professional phone sex experience is told he cannot be hired right now. A Canadian operator needs a US bank account for direct deposit or must accept a mailed check. The company is not always hiring, and a quiet application may simply sit on file for 90 days. Workers outside the US and Canada are not hired, according to the FAQ. A reader who wants to sell clips, run a fan page or earn from subscriptions will not find that model here: the pages describe taking calls and nothing else.
